CIMA & MusicOntario 2020 AGM

The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) & MusicOntario will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Thursday, October 15, 2020, and we'd like to see you there!

We look forward to welcoming our members, friends, colleagues and partners as we look back on the last year, discuss the challenges from COVID-19, and how we will approach the coming year.

Jim Mahoney (VP Global Operations, Merlin Network)

Topic: Merlin 2020 - An Update

Jim Mahoney is the VP, Global Operations for Merlin (www.merlinnetwork.org), the global digital licensing organization representing the rights of the world’s leading independent labels and distributors. Prior to Merlin, Mahoney served for 7 years as the Vice President of the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM; www.a2im.org) the non-profit trade association for U.S. independent labels. He also served on the SoundExchange Board of Directors from 2012-2014. Mahoney has spent his entire career within the independent sector. Some of his previous roles include President of Fat Beats Records & Distribution (working with Atmosphere, Black Milk & RJD2), Senior Director of Urban Product at Roadrunner Records (working with MC Breed and producer Domingo) and National Director of Marketing and Promotions at Profile Records (working with DJ Quik, Camp Lo, Smoothe Da Hustler, Nine, Special Ed & Run DMC).

David "Click" Cox (President, CLK Creative Works) & Ian Andre Espinet (Club & Concert Impressario, Iconic Arts & Entertainment Inc.)

Topic: Breaking Down Racial Barriers

David “Click” Cox started his career as a member of the MMVA winning and JUNO nominated group, The Maximum Definitive. Created reputation for his promotional and marketing efforts working closely with concert promotions company REMG. Soon after, he started his career working with BMG Music Canada and then worked at Universal Music Canada as A&R. During his time with Universal, David founded the Stylus Awards to celebrate the Canadian Hip-Hop and R&B music talents and recognition of DJs. After 8 years with Universal, he created his own entertainment company, CLK Creative Works.  Today, CLK is responsible for managing an eclectic roster of highly skilled and experienced artists. Along with management, David teaches music business at Metalworks and The Remix Project.

Ian Andre Espinet is a Toronto born, serial entrepreneur and lifelong community advocate.

A business professional with over 2 1/2 decades of combined expertise in various areas of business, he is a proficient marketer, graphic designer & creative director, social media specialist, entertainment impresario, public speaker and community servant.

More than the sum of his parts, he is a trusted and respected member of the Canadian music, entertainment and marketing industries.  

He frequently volunteers, and speaks to children/youth on entrepreneurship; has served on the board of CHRY/VIBE 105.5fm (4 years); Caras' JUNO hip hop jury; and FACTOR's Hip Hop & R&B juries for the last 5 sessions. He is recipient of the Government of Canada's "150 Neighbours" CityBuilder Award (for service in Scarborough) and the City of Toronto's Volunteer & Community Service Award.
